Įngagements in which the South Carolina 3rd Regiment of State Dragoons participated in during the American Revolution included: He died in 1789 and was buried at the Maham Plantation Cemetery in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He became ill in 1782 and was arrested by the British but paroled. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded the South Carolina 3rd Regiment of State Dragoons from October 1781, which was originally Maham's Light Dragoons since March 1781. He fought with this unit at the Siege of Savannah and the Battle of Stono Ferry. He was elected a Captain in the 5th South Carolina Regiment (Rifles) under Colonel Isaac Huger in the Spring of 1776. He was known for his temper and once made a deputy sheriff eat the summons that he was trying to serve on him. He was elected to several terms in the South Carolina General assembly both before and after the Revolutionary War as a representative and senator. His plantation was in what is now Berkeley County, South Carolina. Stephens Parish, South Carolina, where he became a successful planter by 1772. During the American Revolution, he commanded the South Carolina 3rd Regiment of State Dragoons. He was a member of the first Provincial Congress of South Carolina. Hezekiah Maham (J1789) was a legislator in South Carolina and a soldier in the South Carolina State Troops.
